How it works
Age is counted in whole years, then whole months, then days — the way a birthday works, not by dividing days by 365.
- Subtract the birth year from the current year.
- If this year's birthday has not happened yet, take one year off and count the months and days since the last birthday.
- Leap days are handled by the calendar itself, so ages around 29 February come out right.
The calculator also shows your age in months, weeks, days and hours, and the date of your next birthday and what weekday it falls on.
Examples
How the counting works:
- Born 15 March 1990, today 22 September 2026: 36 years, 6 months and 7 days — 36 until 15 March 2027, not 37.
- Born 29 February 2000: in non-leap years the birthday is counted on 1 March in most countries' day-to-day use.

- Count completed years since the birth date, then the remaining months, then the remaining days. Someone born on 15 June 1995 is 31 years, 3 months and 7 days old on 22 September 2026.
- How do I calculate age on a specific date?
- Change the ‘Age on’ date. This is useful for exam or job age limits calculated as on a cut-off date.
- How are leap-year birthdays handled?
- For 29 February birthdays, the next birthday in a non-leap year falls on 1 March.
